The Innuit didnt have fires inside of their igloos. doing so would melt the igloo. Indeed, it get so warm inside of a big one, with 4-5 people, that the snow glazes into ice on the inside of the igloo and then they have to build another one and move, cause the ice wont reflect your body heat like the snow does. Instead, the ice absorbs the heat, so you can't have temps that melt snow. This means that the very warmest the igloo can be is 35 F, down where you are, on your raised bed. However, for 300. you can get a synthetic bag that's good to -30F. That's survival temp, not comfort range. Comfort range will be -10F. However, that's with just your longjohns on... The Supershelter, double walled version, with the cold sink, will raise temps by at least 20F, with just your bodyheat. and you'll have all that debris clothing, poncho and 10x10 tarp to wrap around you. You cant do anything in a dark, smoke filled cabin anyway. So why waste body heat and time on one (and on all the wood processing? The supersheter has a clear side and the igllo CAN have a window' made of the double layers of clear PEVA shower curtain and you can stuff drt debris between the clear layers when it's dark outside. Also, with the supershelter and the tarp. You CAN set up to work comfortably with the door flap open. What you do is put hot rocks under the bed upon which you sit, at the open door-flap, your legs down in the cold-air sinkhole. 6 Ft away, outside of the shelter, have a Siberian fire lay projecting its one way heat at you. Then you can work bare-handed, if you need to make more netting, cordage, etc. You'lll have this option even if you have made an igloo, just by setting up the Supershelter again. If you have the superselter, you can always move camp to a big kill while you process the meat. It's not hard to make a solid ice Igloo 3-4 thick to guard your food from wolverines and wolves, plenty long enough for you to make trips back and forth between your two locations, You can't be more than 2.4 miles from your main camp. and have both places be inside of the 5 sq miles of your allotted hunk of land. So it's a mistake to build a cabin or debris hut, folks. Doing so is highly likely to cost you the prize money. You do NOT have to take a big animal in order to win. You should TRY, to do so, tho, with baited vertical junglewhips, and you should always keep your projectile weapon on you at all times. That's one reason to favor taking a slingbow, not a regular bow and at least some of your arrows as 2-3 piece take down variants. The other reason is a slingbow can use baked clay balls as ammo for shots not worthy of an arrow. So you not only save a week or more of effort making the shelter, you save 3 or more weeks of effort cutting, hauling and processing wood, cause you dont need it to keep warm. You only need the hot rocks, at most, on average and that's 1/4 as much wood and 1/8th as much processings as bringing the wood inside to a small fire place. Duh.
